Ralph Simon (rabbi)

American Conservative rabbi (1906–1996)

Ralph Simon was a prominent American Conservative rabbi, born in 1906. He began his career in the rabbinate after being ordained in New York in 1931. Simon went on to serve as the Rabbi at Congregation Rodfei Zedek in Chicago, a position he held from 1943 until his retirement in 1987. During his lengthy tenure, he established himself as a respected figure within the Jewish community.

Simon's influence extended beyond his congregation, as he played a significant role in the broader Jewish leadership. In 1967, he was elected President of the Rabbinical Assembly, a notable honor that reflected his stature within the Conservative movement. Additionally, his efforts in support of Israel were recognized in 1976, when he was named "Israel Bond Man of the Year" for his successful leadership of the Israel Bond drive in Chicago. Through his work, Simon helped raise millions of dollars for Israel Bonds, achieving this feat by persuading members of the banking community of the bonds' safety and value. He passed away in 1996, at the age of 90.
